Mallon Gentling & Training Llamas & Alpacas
DVDs

Timing
is the heart of the Mallon Method: your action, the llamas
or alpacas reaction, your reaction. Some of this dance
is best learned with hands-on, personal supervision, and lots
of practice. However, many aspects of the Mallon Method do
lend themselves to DVD, and the list of DVDs is expanding in
spits and spurts.

The
First 24 Hours Train your youngsters
while they are at their most impressionable age and
most receptive to learning. This early training stays
with them and helps them to become cooperative, willing
companions for life. The most important hours you
will ever spend with your llamas or alpacas are those
immediately following birth. This training method
helps remove fear of the human touch.
Halter
Training Basics A most valuable first
lesson that eliminates all of the guesswork and guarantees
the perfect timing needed to teach llamas or alpacas
of any age to respond to the slightest cue. If you
want your llamas or alpacas to be light in the
hand, this is how to start them. Builds a solid
foundation for stress-free leading, loading, crossing
obstacles, etc.
Demonstrating
with three animals, aged 2-7 months and introduced
to the halter and lead rope for the first time, John
teaches you to help your llamas or alpacas to quickly
overcome their fears and respond willingly to the
lightest touch.
Difficult
to Halter John demonstrates his proven
method of helping a llama or alpaca overcome his fear
of the haltering process in this long-awaited addition
to his popular video series.
In
the first half-hour, John explains the hows
and whys as he works with a two year old
male who has been extremely difficult for his owners
to halter.
The
rest of the tape is devoted to Johns working
with the owner and the llama or alpaca together. By
following the simple instructions and procedures clearly
demonstrated in this video, you should be able to
overcome your llamas or alpacas
haltering problems almost immediately.
Working
in the Round Pen In this extraordinary
three-DVD tutorial, John works with a previously
unhandled 3 1/2 yr. old male llama, from first touch
to leading while carrying packs. Along the way, John
desensitizes the llama or alpaca to being handled
all over his body, including his ears, tail, belly,
legs, etc., and to having his feet picked up, all
done at liberty, not tied to a fence.
John
will demonstrate, for the first time, his unique method
of using a simple bath towel to safely desensitize
a full-grown animal, with amazingly fast results.
He will introduce the pack saddle and panniers, and
help the llama or alpaca to learn to control himself
in new and frightening situations, without danger
to himself or others.
If
you have never attended a John
Mallon Clinic or Exhibition, this will be a truly
mind-expanding experience. And for those who have
seen John work, it will serve as an excellent reference
for when your training goes off-track, and help reinforce
his simple, but effective, philosophies on teaching
and learning with prey animals.
NOTE:
You will notice some wind noise in the background
of this tape. John was aware of this noise when preparing
the tape and repeated any instructions that might
have been difficult to hear initially. Because of
this distraction, John has discounted the price of
this DVD to $99.
